Currently, I am a Principal Engineering Manager at Microsoft, leading a team focused on query optimization and processing for Fabric Data Warehouse.
Previously, I led a team in the Gray Systems Lab (GSL), driving innovation in data systems performance, interoperability, and benchmarking across Azure Data’s product portfolio.
Before Microsoft, I worked at Cloudera (formerly Hortonworks) on query optimization for SQL data warehouse engines.
I am a member of the Apache Software Foundation and have made significant contributions to open-source projects like Apache Calcite and Apache Hive. More recently, my contributions have extended to table formats, including LST-Bench and Apache XTable (incubating).
I obtained my PhD degree from the University of Paris-Sud and Inria in 2014, under the supervision of Ioana Manolescu and Dario Colazzo. From 2009 to 2011, I was a research engineer at Inria. Prior to that, I received my Computer Science and Engineering degree from the University of Almería in 2009.
